All keys are lost
A replacement can often be cut and programmed at the vehicle without an original key, with old keys removed from the system where supported.
Car key replacement, programming, emergency vehicle entry and specialist fault diagnosis—provided personally by Matt Ladds.
Locked out, lost your only key, or dealing with a key that will not turn or start the vehicle? Matt attends homes, workplaces and roadside locations across Reading and Berkshire with mobile cutting, programming and diagnostic equipment. You speak directly to the person doing the work, and the job is quoted before he sets off.
An auto locksmith call-out is rarely just “cut a key.” The first job is to identify whether the problem is the key, the lock, the ignition, the steering lock or the immobiliser—then choose the safest and most cost-effective way to get the vehicle working again.
A replacement can often be cut and programmed at the vehicle without an original key, with old keys removed from the system where supported.
Non-destructive entry techniques are used to regain access without drilling or damaging the vehicle whenever possible.
The fault may be in the key blade, ignition barrel or electronic steering lock. Proper diagnosis prevents unnecessary parts replacement.
Key-recognition, transponder, immobiliser and module faults can look similar. Diagnostic equipment helps identify the actual cause.
Share the make, model, year, location and what the vehicle is doing. Matt can usually narrow down the likely service before attending.
The price is agreed before the call-out. There is no separate fee simply for turning up, and any uncertainty is explained honestly.
Matt brings cutting, programming and diagnostic equipment to your home, workplace or roadside and tests everything before leaving.
Matt started in the motor trade in 2003 as a vehicle technician, working with diagnostics, ECUs and control modules before specialising in vehicle keys and locks. That experience matters because modern key faults are often electronic as well as mechanical.
A key may be physically fine but fail to communicate with the immobiliser. A vehicle that will not start may have an electronic steering-lock fault rather than a damaged key. A replacement remote may need programming, coding and final testing—not merely a new case or battery.
Each service has its own specialist page, but many real call-outs overlap. A lost-key job may involve entry, cutting, programming and immobiliser work during the same visit.

Škoda Enyaq · 2023After the customer’s bag and key were stolen, Matt fitted a new lock set, supplied two fobs, programmed them with Škoda ODIS and removed the stolen key from the vehicle. It required full car key replacement and security work, not only a new blade.
Volkswagen BeetleThe ignition would not switch off and the key would not release. Matt diagnosed the steering lock and replaced the unit from van stock. Similar symptoms may need specialist ignition and steering-lock repair.
Mercedes B-ClassMatt used the vehicle’s own data to program a steering-lock emulator and restore the ignition, avoiding a full unit replacement. It shows why proper immobiliser and key-system diagnosis matters.

Key Genie is run by Matthew “Matt” Ladds, not by a call centre or a national lead network. When you call, you can explain the exact problem directly to the locksmith who will attend.
Matt’s earlier work as a vehicle technician means he is comfortable around diagnostics, control modules and vehicle security systems. That is particularly useful for modern smart keys, immobiliser faults, steering locks and vehicles that do not recognise a programmed key.
He specialises in VW Group, BMW and Ford vehicles, while covering most other makes and models, including commercial vans. Every job is assessed on the actual vehicle rather than treated as a one-size-fits-all key-cutting task.
There is no honest single price for every vehicle. A basic spare key, an all-keys-lost smart key and an electronic steering-lock fault require different equipment, time and parts. Matt asks a few questions first so the quote reflects the actual job.
Request a QuoteThe security system and programming method vary by manufacturer, model and production year.
A spare key, total key loss, remote fault, lockout and immobiliser issue are different jobs.
Blade, remote, smart key, lock, steering unit or module requirements affect the final quote.
